Arthroscopy refers to a procedure in which a joint is viewed using a small camera. It allows Dr. Rendall to diagnose and treat knee and shoulder disorders by providing a clear view of the inside of the joint. With improvements of arthroscopes and higher resolution cameras, the procedure has become highly effective for both the accurate diagnosis and proper treatment of knee problems.
Signs that you may be a candidate for this procedure include swelling, persistent pain, catching, giving way, and loss of confidence in your joint. When other treatments, such as the regular use of medications, supports, and physical therapy, have provided minimal or no improvement, you may benefit from arthroscopy.

Osteoarthritis is the most common reason for joint replacement. Osteoarthritis is caused by the wear and tear of aging. It causes the cartilage covering the joint surfaces to wear out, resulting in pain and stiffness. Total joint replacement will be considered if other treatment options will not relieve the pain and disability. In joint replacement surgery, Dr. Rendall will remove the arthritic or damaged joint and replace it with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis. This relieves pain and improves mobility. Dr. Rendall is one of only a few surgeons in the area using computer navigation on every total knee replacement.

As an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Rendall uses both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital conditions. Some conditions respond well to non-surgical treatments such as exercise, therapy, medication, casts or splints, and orthotics. Surgical orthopedic options may include knee and shoulder arthroscopy, ACL repair, knee replacement, hip replacement, repair of bone fractures, disc repair, spinal fusion, and carpal tunnel release.
